SoilCare Resources
The Northern Rivers Soil Best Management Practice (BMP) Guides were developed by Northern Rivers growers for growers. They offer practical guidelines to improve and maintain soil health for better production and environmental outcomes. The Soil BMP is a ‘living’ document and as such can be edited and updated as we further our understanding of soil health and sustainable farming practices.

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Biological Control of Insect Pests
IPM - Beneficial Insects Websites
Bugs for Bugs specialises in integrated pest management (IPM) and is one of Australia's leading suppliers of biological control agents.
ABC - Australasian Biological Control - This website is hosted by the Association of Beneficial Arthropod Producers Inc (ABC Inc) - better known as The Good Bug Producers.
The mass release of beneficial insects is now a "mainstream" component of many cropping systems, most notably - citrus, strawberries, nursery, cut flower and glasshouse vegetable crops, sweet corn, macadamia nuts...

A recent BioResources research project has been looking at insect pest populations under various inter row management regimes. The greatest diversity has been where flowering plants have been seeded into the inter row. This is not a unique finding. Many farmers in Australia and around the world have used cover crops for a long time. To help move this practice along for macadamias, BioResources has purchased a linkage direct drill seeder. We have a lot to learn about this technology - best seeds, timing, weather, soil conditions. But there are many benefits besides improving natural enemy populations:

- more and diverse pollinators improved nutrient cycling
- increase soil carbon levels provide better water penetration and reduce runoff
- improve water holding capacity
- nurture a more diverse and abundant soil borne microfauna
